Wied il-Għasri is a sea gorge on the island of Gozo near Għasri. The gorge has a length of about 250m, a width of about 15m to 30m and a maximum depth of 10m. Due to the remote location, the gorge touristically has only a very small importance. Only among divers there is a certain degree of fame, as there is a popular dive site directly in front of it. This is the so-called „Cathedral Cave“ , a large underwater cave filled with air.
Nearby is also the „Reqqa Point“ – the northernmost point on Gozo.

At the foot of the valley there is a gravel bed. Due to the northern location, it is even possible to sit in the shade. The water is very clear and is great for cooling off a bit.
The above-mentioned remote location is even an advantage here, since not too many tourists come to this valley.

To get to this valley, first go to Għasri and turn off at the market place towards the sea.
Directly in front of the gorge there is a small unpaved parking lot.
The way down and up again can be strenuous in the midday heat, but it is definitely possible.

In close proximity to the Wied il-Għasri is the former industrial center of the village. However, this is not as usual everywhere from purpose designed halls, but in the case of Gozo from hewn in the rocks in which salt was formerly gained from the sea. Although these are no longer actively used in this location, they are an impressive and deserted photo opportunity.

Conclusion:
The valley is definitely worth a visit. The water is crystal clear and in a stunning blue. If you also plan to go into the water to cool down, be sure to check that jellyfish are swimming in the water. Like many other fish and marine animals, jellyfish have chosen this beautiful valley as their home.
On many other websites the way to the valley was described as very difficult and exhausting. We can not confirm that in any way – rather the opposite. If you park in the parking lot directly at the valley, you only have to go down a few steps and then up again. If you arrive by bus, the distance is about 1.5 km or 20 minutes on foot.
