A fragrance according to my taste!
Älgbert Elgson
This day was all about smells. No wonder we also set up our basecamp in the capital of perfume. There are several large and famous perfume manufacturers here in Grasse. Some even offer perfume workshops where you can create your own perfume.

We already booked in advance via Booking.com and appeared on time at the perfume manufacturer „Galimard“. We were told that each perfume consists of a base, a heart and a top note. The top note is the part of the perfume that immediately gets into your nose. It should make you curious without being pushy. The heart note is the actual „supporting“ part of the perfume. It can be playfully lovely or brazenly masculine. It is the part that stays longer and is supposed to convey a pleasant olfactory feeling. The base note is what is left the next morning when the rest of the perfume is gone. This usually consists of earthy notes, which should be a nice reminder of the past.
Said and done! With the newly gained half-knowledge, we set about mixing our own creation with plenty of support from the nice and knowledgeable employees. For this purpose, we had a variety of essences available that were smelled one after the other and put on the mixing list – or not. However, the available vials are only a small extract of what is available to a professional perfume manufacturer, called „nose“ or „nez“ in French. In our self-experiment, there were 127 different bottles with essential oils, the professional has around 3500 different smells for his creation. Some perfumes can also consist of over 200 different essences, which also explains why master noses sometimes take a year to create a new fragrance. We „only“ had about 2 hours available.
So if you always wanted to know how Älgs would like to smell, you can order the “Älgprinzessin” women’s fragrance from “Galimard” with the number “144 327” and the “Eau d’Älg” men’s fragrance with the number “144 328”.
Would you also like to create your own perfume? The perfume creation course in Grasse takes place every day at different times in the „Studio des Fragrances Galimard“ of the Perfumery Galmiard. Bookings can be made on the homepage of the Perfumery Galimard or other platforms such as Booking.com. Since several perfume manufacturers are known to be located in Grasse, you can visit workshops with different manufacturers. For example, we visited the Fragonard perfumery and took part in a guided tour there. Workshops can also be booked there on the official Fragonard Perfumery website. It is worth comparing the prices and also keeping an eye on the services included (type and quantity of the perfume produced, bottle included, …).
