The Gozo Channel is a strait about seven kilometres long between the islands of Malta and Gozo. Several car ferries operate regularly between Ċirkewwa on Malta and Mġarr on Gozo. The exact departure times can be found on the Gozo Channel Line website. If necessary, there are more ferries than are scheduled, so at least in the high season there are no long waiting times to be expected.
Payment is made exclusively for the crossing from Gozo to Malta, and it does not matter whether the return trip takes place on the same day or weeks later. In the port of Mġarr you first pay for the crossing at the ticket office and then park the car in the rows provided as in Ċirkewwa. When embarking, follow the instructions given by the instructor, who will distribute the cars quickly and routinely on the ship with the help of hand signals.
The crossing itself takes about 20 minutes and passes the islands of Comino and Cominotto. There are toilets, vending machines, a canteen and a small supermarket on the ferries, and there is also plenty of seating.

Conclusion: The ferry connection between Malta and Gozo works without any problems and the price is okay. We never had to wait very long for a ferry, not even at night. In addition, there is currently no alternative between the islands, a tunnel is said to be planned.
