At some point it was certainly nice to look at.

The Azure Window was an archway naturally created by erosion. This was always exposed to strong natural influences, which ultimately led to its collapse in 2017.

In 2010, the wedding between Daenerys Targaryen and Khal Drogo was filmed for the HBO series Game of Thrones.
As a big fan of the series, we obviously had to visit this place.
Due to the collapse, there is of course not so much to see, because the archway has collapsed completely.
In the immediate vicinity there is also the so-called „Inland Sea“ and „Fungus Rock“. Many use the „Inland Sea“, a saltwater lake connected to the Mediterranean by a tunnel, for swimming or to view the remains of the Azure Windows from the sea with the boat trips offered there with fishing boats. The fungus rock „Il-Ġebla tal-Ġeneral“ was declared a nature reserve in 1992 and can only be visited for research purposes.
There is also the „Dwejra Tower“, a tower that was built in 1652 during the reign of the Grand Master Jean de Lascaris-Castellar. These guardposts, also known as Lascari Towers, were tasked with warning of enemy invasions. These can be found all over Gozo and also Malta.
Conclusion:
Whoever expects to find himself in a scene from Game of Thrones will be very disappointed. The remote area is approached every minute by the HopOn-HopOff buses with tourists – which is of course an advantage in terms of accessibility, but it also brings many people to this place.
The water in the tunnel of the „Inland Sea“ is said to be beautiful, but the lying area in this fishing village is very limited and actually always in the blazing sun.
Apart from that, the rugged landscape is a wonderful photo motif and after a short hike you will discover spots almost empty of people to enjoy the view of the bright blue sea.
